Říp
Maybe you wonder how come so many posts appeared within yesterday night and today morning... The answer is easy, yesterday we went for a trip and arms and hair are the only parts of my body that seem to move the way I am used to. If you saw the three girls going home yesterday you would laugh your pants of. I admire Dody for his quite solemn face (most of the time) when watching us walking in the night home. All three were limping in a different way and I really wonder how Jana and Marta feel now. :o)
Full of self confidence we set off for a trip to the hill Říp. The legendary Czech hill. As we wanted to do some proper excercise we decided to take bus to some distant city and walk from there to the hill. That turned as a very nice idea especially since we arrived to Mělník - city where the two main rivers - Labe and Vltava - meet (map).

We embarked on the way. First we walked through the city, passed the bridge and followed one of the main streets. That turned out to be bit dangerous so we got into the fields next to the road and walked through that. We passed Jenicovice only to be attacked by hundreds of little flies that threatened to get into our mouths and noses. Unfortunately Marta's complains were so funny that it was tough to manage to keep the mouth closed and not to laugh out loud.
Soon we were passing by a fruit plantations, apples, pears, cherry trees. It was all funded by EU who has turned out only to put obstacles into our way. While following the path on the map which was made "before EU plantations", it did not suggest that there was a new fence built which we had to climb over not to have to walk the whole way back. That was the time we got into a rain, fortunately the only bigger rain out of the whole trip.
When walking through forest there were heaps of blackberries, we got to eat pears, apples and plums along the way. Yummy.

After several more kilometres we hit the village Horni Berkovice which was quite close to Rip. Finally we could actually see the hill (not that the hill would be hidden behind some other hill, around the hill there are mainly plains). We stopped for another eating energy filling break and then set off for the last part of the journey, to conquer the hill. It is 456m high but after the rains the quite steap paths were muddy and slippery which made climbing harder. After 40 minutes we arrived at the top view and after several more minutes we arrived at the very top. There was a little basilica build at the 11th century that can be visited.

It was past 2pm, we were all worn off and we still needed to work out the way back home. We decided to walk to Roudnice from the hill. I hate Krabcice. We walked through few villages first, then we went through a forest to soon arrive at Roudnice. Walking down from the hill, that was when I started to walk funny. After few kilometres Marta joined me and finally even Jana joined us. At least I did not feel so bad. At Roudnice we managed to get the train stop from where we took a train back to Prague in the direction of Decin.
This was the day when we found out how people look at you when you resemble homeless. Smelly and dirty.
But amazing trip and I am waiting for suggestions for the next one! :o)))
PS I cant believe, that you can walk by now!!! :o(((( I would have to be in the shower till now.
