Radar base instead
Last Friday, after 230 days Czech Republic's parliament finally gave the vote of confidence to our "new" government. A right wing ass-climbing government. The very night USA sent an official note to ask to place their radar station in Czech Republic.
So although we managed not to have the missile base here, we are to receive even a worse thing - a radar station - as logically radar station is usually the first target to get rid of. Nice.
I wonder why France, Belgium, Netherlands or eg. Sweden was not asked. Or maybe they were and the countries refused it.
Not Czech Republic. Our new government is all for the station claiming no harm can be done to our country, we will receive on the contrary higher protection. And no referendum necessary. The population is stupid and thus they dont know what is good for us.
One of our new ministers said one very wise argument for the station "the US base of 300 men will support the economy of our country, as the men will consume food and drinks in Czech Republic". Amazing economic deduction. Finally I understand why he became one of the ministers.
This is what claims one Czech physicist.
If there is an attack on USA, be it from Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan or North Korea, the logical path of the missile is not over Europe but over the Pacific Ocean. The missile should logically follow the way the Earth turns, from west to east. Thus the speed of the missile and the earth's turning will accelerate the missile. If the missile chooses the other route it will have to carry much more fuel and most likely wont reach the target. The question is how clever are the physicists in those Arabic and Asian countries - hopefully bit more than those in USA. ;o)
This all makes me wonder what is the point of the missile base in Czech Republic. And I suggest our prime minister should offer his own garden to place the station. He can also feed the soldiers.

Martina, this sounds like a voice of young communists ;-)).
Better having this decent (though far from ideal) government than none or built by CSSD and communists.
Radar ? There's no harm in it for us. Even if it becomes the first target. There's no need to use an A-bomb or to send here an army to destroy a simple radar !!! A couple of planes will do the job too. Where's the danger then ? The only likely thing that will follow is that Russia will close the oil-pipes and require that we pay more. Nevertheless it was never a clever thing to do in our history to depend on Russia in anything.
Everyone complained about having soviet soldiers here before 1989 and suddenly it is fine to have american base here. As if we cannot depend on ourselves. Instead we have to be asslickers of USA for a change. That is one country that you can be sure of you cant rely upon in anything, because they see only their interests.
If you are an honest and fair person, I dont care what is your political opinion.
Asslickers ? How did you come to that ? There's a huge difference between presence of russians in this country some years ago and a US radar station.
Despite the big US fuck-up in Iraq as well as several others, US is still far more reliable and credible a country than Russia, or China.
And I may hate what the US government/president/corporations do at times, but the fact - that the country is built on a constitution that is based on the right principles - for over 200 years already, makes it a trustworthy partner - unlike Russia, China, and many others.
As a side-note, any country protects primarily and prevalently its own interests. Tell me about one that doesn't do so ...
auch, some more :o) ... I just finished studying and I am not really eager to discuss such topic over the comments. I have enough of aruging on similar topics with my boyfriend. :o)
So, whenever we meet there is a space to continue the discussion. :P
And I dont give up... ;o)... just lazy.
excuses ... :)
could be excuses... could be annoyance to talk about it all the time while seeing no way out... so yes, sometimes I choose not to discuss it as it is tiring and annoying...
