Censorship

As if everything is only black and white.
I really dislike the recent trends in our society that we either love something or condemn something.... without actually giving a second thought to it.
And this includes the word censorship.
In my opinion, there is something good about it...

Censorship has its narrow qualities although it is too heavy handed for such a casual community like nomadlife to be used in general. In rare cases, moderation will have to be applied.

Being culturally sensitive is simple; but that's only one small facet in the whole range of possibilities in ways you can offend people (especially politics); on the balance, it is better to let people express their opinion freely because it invites opportunities for dialogues and correction. Being able to disagree respectfully is such an important principal in having a well run community.

I probably did not explain myself well... :o).

Few lines about censorship is definitely very little to capture all the aspects of it. Mainly thus I wanted to state that I am willing to see some positive parts of it too instead of just saying "no to censorship".

Regarding the cultural sensitivity, I do not think it is that simple... :o)... but I meant not only that; I meant that there should be, from my point of view, some sort of courtesy or manners (general sensitivity) when commenting/ posting about something (maybe that is just me though :o). I like to discuss things too and it is obvious people have different opinions. :o) I hoped I did explain well that I totally support everyone talking freely. I just objected to some ways that some comments/ posts might be written... hope this makes more sense :o).

You are understood and I agree with what you write, with several conditions :)

The spectrum of general courtesy when posting is pretty wide, because the tone of the posting is also part of the way we communicate through writing; so if we mandate people to behave in a narrow band of tone, it will limit the things that the people can express.

I think the underlying thing is giving everybody benefit of the doubt; reasonable people can disagree sharply on many things.

I see your point concerning the conditions :o))... but I must say that I will probably keep to my word above... I do not like to discuss things with people that offend me... I think a reasonable well-bread person is able to discuss/ state his/her opinion even if in passionate or excited way but still in the frames of manners/politeness and with respect to my opinion, although it might differ ;o).
I guess the stubborness of mine shows all the time... :o))... but I am afraid I will always prefer I disagree with your words to What a bullship you say.

I'm not a missionary, so it's not my goal to convert people to my POV :)

I tend to disregard on how people say thing and see what they are actually try to convey. "you are a f*cking idiot" vs "I disagree with you" sounds essentially the same.

hehehe... I can really tell - I realized quite soon that you do not mind these "fine" differences in the speech :o))). It is visible in your posts and emails :o).
And since myself, I tend to regard how people say things, I was driven to write such post ;o).
